2. Manual

You control two kinds of characters.

  • Warriors: Close ranged, do damage.
  • Casters: Ranged. Stun and move enemies.

First thing you will be asked is to choose the class of one of the characters. Choose warrior unless you want an extra challenge.

In game, use the keys q, w and e to select different characters.

Movement and combat action points are obteined by playing cards. You select which card to play with numbers 1-6. The number of each card is marked on the top left. As you play the cards, they leave your hand, so be mindful of fast key presses.

Movement is a shared pool. Every card that grants movement, grants movement for both warriors and casters.

Movement is handled by rogelike keys (hjklyubn). Diagonal movement counts as one. You cannot move through walls. Not even diagonally (this may be counter intuitive for roguelike players). If you are unfamiliar with roguelike keys:

  • j: move down
  • k: move up
  • h: more left
  • l: move right
  • y: move up-left
  • u: move up-right
  • b: move down-left
  • n: move down-right

Warriors can fight when a hand weapon is in play (flail, swords). Casters can fight when wands are in play. More than one of those can be in play.

You switch between movement mode and attack mode by pressing r. Here you can hit tab to cycle through targets. Once you have your desired target selected, press space to attack that target. After the effect is dealt, you go back to movement mode. That's to solve some bugs. But you can attack multiple times.

Warriors do plain old damage. Casters stun and trip their targets. You have to move a stunned target. Stunned targets do not get to stay in place.

Stunned enemies wont move at the end of the turn. Nor they will deal damage. Damage is dealt to the characters when they start their turn next to an enemy. Characters are fairly squishy.

Other than basic cards, there are also skill cards. You need to burn a basic card to play a skill card. Select which basic card you want to burn with the number keys. That card is out of play now. Lost until next level. Your standard attacks will now be under the effects of the skill. There are 2 skills for each character class. One increases range, other does area of effect. You are a smart cookie, you will figure it out which is which. You can discard skill cards by selecting them normally and pressing d.

Hit enter to end your turn.

Each time you cycle through your deck, you loose 2 cards.

Final note to hineous adventurerers: No element of the dungeon is superfluous.
